Hi There
We had our highest click through rate ever last week with the timeless (and in parts hilarious) article https://hbr.org/1999/11/management-time-whos-got-the-monkey.
If you haven't read it, please do. And if you're too young for some of the terminology (lucky you!), Alison Roode from HESTA prepared this excellent glossary:
- Boss now is a leader
- Subordinate is now a team member
- Memo = email
- Boss’ office = where the leader works from 😆
- Out-basket = sent email
- In-basket = email inbox
- Supervision = leading
- Public relations = marketing
- Managers briefcase 💼 = email inbox
- Secretary = Executive Assistant (and not many people are lucky enough to have one these days!)
- Intercom = mobile 📱
In other news, has anyone tried an interesting hot cross bun flavour? KIDDING! Or not? Personally I'm a 'hot cross buns are for Easter' person but it's clear that people must buy them or otherwise Coles/Woolies wouldn't bother...
More importantly from a work perspective, there are big changes to AML coming this year, especially for:
- Real estate agents and property developers
- Dealers in precious stones, metals and products
- Lawyers
- Conveyancers
- Accountants
- Trust and company service providers.
If you have any friends who work in these areas, do them a big favour and give them a heads up now!
And lastly, a great article from McKinsey & Company to kick-start 2025 - building high-performing teams for lasting change (and don't we all want that!).
Cheers
Sarah
