Hi There

Happy International Women's Day - this Saturday, 8 March 2025.

So much happening already this year! Yesterday I attended the ASFA Spotlight on Insurance in Superannuation and led a session on employee mental health. It was a fascinating discussion with special guest speakers Dr Natalie Flatt, Keely OBrien and Lina Saliba. My key takeouts from the day (not just our session):

  • employee awareness of what benefits are available to them is low, but they really like it when you remind them (surprise!).
  • poor disclosure and communication are the root cause of many AFCA issues and litigation. Jocelyn Furlan suggested getting a 'non industry' person to read any comms before they go out. Which I absolutely endorse.
  • using APIs to streamline the handoffs between fund and insurer is an absolute winner.
  • not having our own (super industry) code of conduct is a key cause of the govmint stepping in around SLAs etc. Oops.

We also kicked off our first PDS Managers Roundtable for 2025, featuring the Policy Team from the Financial Services Council with a run down on what to expect over the next year and the key areas to watch in product disclosure. Our next roundtable will be in May - please let Katie know if you are interested in joining our group.

Cheers

Sarah

PS: We are looking for a Keystone gun for a three month contract starting mid-March. If that's you or you know someone, please get in touch.
