This new leader be on the hook for financial advice reforms, the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort and possibly a "super for housing" policy. Their influence will shape the industry's future. Preventing payment of victims’ death benefits to domestic/family violence perpetrators
The Government has announced that, if re-elected, it would “Look at how we can stop perpetrators of domestic and family violence from receiving their victim’s superannuation after death”.The announcement follows the December 2024 report from the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations & Financial Services, from its inquiry into the financial services regulatory framework in relation to financial abuse, that recommended consideration of this issue.
The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) has launched the AASB S2 Knowledge Hub, providing guidance to assist entities in complying with the mandatory reporting standard, AASB S2 Climate-related disclosures. The reporting requirements are being phased in from 1 January 2025, with registrable superannuation entities required to prepare sustainability reports for annual reporting periods commencing from 1 July 2026 or 2027 depending on their size.
