Hi There

I've been thinking about making 'hard calls'. You know, when a product isn't working out despite the compelling business case, or you need to restructure your team and someone is going to miss out on the role they want.

It's so easy to put these off, but what I've learnt over 30+ years of (sometimes bitter!) experience, is that the fallout generally doesn't decrease the longer you leave it. In fact, it's the opposite. The longer the sub-optimal situation drags on, the worse the ramifications when you finally make the call.

Also, done is better than perfect, and with a hard call, there's just not going to be any perfect option. Waiting won't make the perfect option appear, sadly.

So with the end of the financial year in sight, are there any hard calls that you've been putting off making? I'd encourage you to get them done before 30 June so you can deal with the inevitable and start FY26 afresh.

If you need some harsh but fair advice to help you get it done, my inbox is always open!
