It’s been a big week in the news, with earthquakes, typhoons, bushfires and, closer to home, an outbreak of bird flu. Not exactly a bumper crop of good news.
So, to make myself feel better about all of this, I have spent a couple of days helping my neighbour put all of her old furniture on Facebook Marketplace. Doing something for someone else really does improve your mood considerably!
Cheers
Sarah
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Mindset first, then skillset, then toolset. Most transformation projects get this backwards. A new platform lands before anyone's agreed what "good" looks like, so the tool just automates the old confusion, faster.
Mindset means agreeing the outcome and the trade-offs before anything else. Skillset means building the judgement to make decisions consistently, without a rulebook for every scenario. Only then does toolset matter, and by that point the tool is doing far less work than people expect, because the thinking's already sound.
Technology doesn't fix a broken process, it accelerates it. Get the order right and the tool becomes simple but get it wrong and no platform will save you.
It's the sequence we work to at Mayflower on every engagement and why we build capability first rather than handing over another system to manage.

WHY ADAPTABILITY MAY BE THE ULTIMATE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Knowledge has never had a shorter shelf life as markets shift, technology races ahead and customer expectations refuse to sit still. The ability to learn, unlearn and relearn is becoming one of the most valuable skills for individuals and organisations. Read more here.
