Hi There

This week, we're all about AI and PDSs. A typical week at Mayflower really!

Cheers

Sarah

FIELD NOTES

Lots of our clients are mid PDS roll, or just finished. It's a hectic time of year! PDS rolls are a funny mix of 'lots of planning' x 'dealing with whatever gets thrown at you', and the ability to do both at once is what sets the superior PDS manager apart.

And for your entertainment, here's a post I wrote in 2022 about all the bad PDS behaviour that would of course never happen at your workplace. If you're struggling with any of these, let's talk. We 'ave ways...

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

AI is no longer the eager entry-level employee. Now it's the smooth consultant with all the answers.

Which would be great if it actually was a consultant, but it is, of course, just a computer.

So not only do you have to watch out for incorrect or made-up sources, but also be wary of believing a very smooth-sounding answer that may, in fact, be absolute rubbish.

So, what is a busy person to do? I think the main thing, actually, is to do your own thinking before you go anywhere near an AI prompt.

Even a walk around the block while you think about exactly what it is you need AI to do will get you a much better result than just sitting down and starting to type in whatever comes to mind. That way, you are in a better position to get a good result from the AI and, having done some of your own thinking, are less likely to accidentally go with whatever AI tells you without any consideration.

AI AND CULTURE - 10 FAULT LINES

Adaptive Cultures

A guy sets up an AI agent to book his gym sessions. It works, right up until it starts bumping other people off the waitlist to make it happen! When he tells it to fix that, it can't. Andrew Brown and Teresa Collis from Adaptive Cultures ran a fascinating CREW session on the missing middle, governance theatre, the adaptive deficit, and what to actually do in the face of non-stop AI change.
